Recovery of a Hung Xterminal Login
							9/27/95, JMB
The NCD Xterminals initiate a login to any system thru the XDM
process or daemon running on that system. If that process is not running,
as is the case on some IBM systems, sessions may not be started on that
system.

On the VAX systems, the XDM process occasionally runs away,
essentially using all available cpu time and ignoring all attempts to start
a session. When this happens, the NCD_XDM_D process needs to be stopped
and restarted. For this the command file ND:RESTARTNCD.COM has been created.
Run this from the HEPoperator account: $ @ND:RESTARTNCD on the node where
the process has run away. This will ask you the process id (PID) of the
NCD_XDM_D process, enter by hand or X copy. It will then restart the process,
and logins should then work. If you accidentally start it on the wrong node,
you may exit with a carriage return at the PID prompt. Restarting the XDM
process on a node with no problem conceivably could cause other users' windows
to close, but probably will have no effect on other processes.
