UND Networking Contacts and Connections
								8/29/01, JMB

For Networking problems, first contact OIT operations 631-5603.
If you see no action and want to talk to someone who knows the university
network, contact:
	Pete Shaw, 631-4480, Shaw.3@nd.edu, pager: 258-8315
He is the one who will come out and check failures and get them fixed.

The primary component in the NSH 4th floor network closet and at
Aldi's lab is the switching ethernet hub. Appletalk is no longer available.
The NSH ethernet hub has 24 10/100BT ports; the rest are all 10BT only.
Connections to non-HEP locations go thru a fiber-optic link from the hub
to the LaFortune hub. Undpdk is on thinwire ethernet, which connects
thru the Retix bridge on top of undpdk. DECnet is available only on campus.
Internet connections go thru the campus network to a hub in the library
and then to the world. HEP is part of the vBNS high speed network and has
separate routing out of campus. Connections to the departmental printers
are thru the hub on the second floor, routed thru LaFortune. When some
of the network is down, check for other parts, and tell the networking
people, to help them diagnose the problem and get it back faster.

For network nodenames, check the /etc/hosts file on proton. It is
the most up-to-date list of node names, other than my DNS spreadsheet.
